Analyze
Symbol: Tnfrsf11b
Name: tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily, member 11b (osteoprotegerin)
RGD ID: 11035
MGI Page MGI
Description: Enables heparan sulfate binding activity. Involved in negative regulation of osteoclast differentiation. Acts upstream of or within extracellular matrix organization; negative regulation of odontogenesis of dentin-containing tooth; and negative regulation of tumor necrosis factor-mediated signaling pathway. Located in extracellular matrix. Is expressed in several structures, including arterial system; bone; gut; hemolymphoid system gland; and placenta. Used to study osteoporosis. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in Paget's disease of bone; Paget's disease of bone 5; and osteoarthritis. Orthologous to human TNFRSF11B (TNF receptor superfamily member 11b).
Type: protein-coding
RefSeq Status: VALIDATED
Previously known as: O; OC; OCIF; Opg; osteoclastogenesis inhibitory factor; osteoprotegerin; TR; TR1; tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 11B
