Definition:A region of facultative heterochromatin formed dynamically at specific loci in response to environmental signals, independently of RNAi.
Comment:An example of this type of heterochromatin is found in Schizosaccharomyces pombe, where heterochromatin islands are formed at meiotic genes during vegetative (mitotic) growth.
