MAMMALIAN PHENOTYPE - ANNOTATIONS

The Mouse Adult Gross Anatomy Ontology and Mammalian Phenotype Ontology are downloaded weekly from the Mouse Genome Informatics databases at Jackson Laboratories (ftp://ftp.informatics.jax.org/pub/reports/index.html). For more information about these ontologies, see the MGI Publications Page at http://www.informatics.jax.org/mgihome/other/publications.shtml.

Definition:any functional anomaly of chemosensitive cells that innervate the vomernasal organ epithelium and are responsible for receiving and transmitting pheromone signals
Comment:This organ is believed to function in sensing pheromones. While the structure has been thought to be absent from higher primate adults, some data suggests that a form may be present in adult humans.
