Definition:Sulfur, mostly found as inorganic sulfate, can be taken up by plants, microorganisms and algae. Upon reduction to sulfide, it is then incorporated into bioinorganic compounds. The underlying reactions and interactions constitute the sulfate assimilation pathway, best characterized in plants.
