RGD uses the Human Disease Ontology (DO, https://disease-ontology.org/) for disease curation across species. RGD automatically downloads each new release of the ontology on a monthly basis. Some additional terms which are required for RGD's curation purposes but are not currently covered in the official version of DO have been added. As corresponding terms are added to DO, these custom terms are retired and the DO terms substituted in existing annotations and subsequently used for curation.
A chromosomal deletion syndrome that is a nephroblastoma that results_in a rare genetic syndrome in which affected children are predisposed to develop Wilms tumor, Aniridia (absence of the colored part of the eye, the iris), genitourinary anomalies, and mental retardation. The condition results from a deletion on chromosome 11 resulting in the loss of several genes. As such, it is one of the best studied examples of a condition caused by loss of neighbouring (contiguous) genes. (DO)
