Measurement of the amount of interleukin-6 (IL6) in blood, the fluid that circulates through the heart, arteries, capillaries and veins carrying nutrients and oxygen to the body tissues and metabolites away from them. IL6 is an interleukin that acts as both a pro-inflammatory and an anti-inflammatory cytokine with functions in inflammation and the maturation of B cells.
