Rat Strain Models for Mammary Cancer

ACI:

These are resistant to pyometritis which is induced by 17-beta estradiol even when treated for 12-28 weeks( REF RGD ID: 1559292). These are susceptible to E2-induced mammary and pituitary tumorigenesis ( REF RGD ID: 1358956). They are moderately susceptible to chemically induced carcinogenesis.( REF RGD ID: 1643428)

F344:

Less sensitive to DMBA induced mammary carcinoma and possess dominantly acting genes/alleles which increases the sensitivity (REF RGDID: 631852)

COP:

These are resistant to DMBA induced mammary carcinoma and also to hormone induced and spontaneous mammary cancer.( REF RGD ID: 61081) Ths COP allele acts to increase resistance to mammary carcinogenesis.(REF RGDID: 62417)

WKY :

These are most resistant to DMBA induced mammary carcinoma; 4 QTLs responsible for controlling the susceptibility to DMBA induced mammary carcinoma were identified (REF RGDID: 631852). The WKY Alelle is associated with tumor resistance of mammary carcinoma (REF RGDID: 62417)

WF:

These are susceptible to induced mammary carcinoma.( REF RGD ID: 61081)

SPRD:

These are susceptible to mammary carcinogenesis induced physically and chemically but resistant to estrogen-induced carcinogenesis.( REF RGD ID: 1643428)

BN:

These are susceptible to pyometritis which is induced by 17-beta estradiol. The BN allele controls 17-beta estradiol induced pyometritis in an incompletely dominant manner.( REF RGD ID: 1559292) They do not develop mammary cancer on continuous teatment with E2.( REF RGD ID: 1642526)
