Definition:OBSOLETE. An intracellular signaling cassette that starts with the activation of protein kinase A (PKA), and ends with the regulation of a downstream cellular process, e.g. transcription. The PKA catalytic subunit (PKA-C) is normally present in a complex with its regulatory subunit, PKA-R. The inhibitory action of PKA-R is released upon cAMP binding, which results in the activation of PKA-C.
Comment:This term was obsoleted because it does not represent a specific pathway. Consider cAMP/PKA signal transduction ; GO:0141156 or adenylate cyclase-activating G protein-coupled receptor signaling pathway ; GO:0007189.
Synonyms:exact_synonym: protein kinase A signal transduction
