KATP channels

ATP-sensitive potassium channels are hetero-octamers composed of four pore-forming and four regulatory subunits. The two pore-forming and the two regulatory genes are expressed in many tissues. In beta cells, the channel is composed of Kcnj11 ((Kir6.2) pore-forming and the Abcc8 (Sur1) regulatory subunits. The pore-forming subunit is an inward rectifier; the regulatory subunit belongs to the C-branch of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily with affinity for sulfonylurea.
