heparan sulfate proteoglycans

Hspg2 (known as perlecan) and the family of six glypican member heparan sulfate proteoglycans are important for the long distance transport and regulation of hedgehog signaling. The glypican family can be further subdivided into two subgroups based on the stimulatory or inhibitory effect on signaling. For more information on glypicans check PMID 18505598. Hspg2 and the six glypicans are listed with aliases in parentheses, full names and links to gene report pages:

Hspg2 (Per, perlecan) – heparan sulfate proteoglycan 2
Gpc1 (HSPGM12) – glypican 1
Gpc2 (HSPGM13, cerebroglycan) – glypican 2
Gpc3 (OCI-5, DGSX, SDYS) – glypican 3
Gpc4 – glypican 4
Gpc5 – glypican 5
GPC6 (OMIMD1) – glypican 6 (human gene)
