The heterotrimeric G proteins are subdivided into four families depending on the type of G alpha subunit to which the G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) couple. The M1 type muscarinic receptors couple to Galphaq family members q, 11 and 14. The genes are listed with aliases in parentheses, full names and links to gene report pages:
