cone opsins

Cone visual pigments known as opsins mediate bright light and color vision. Humans have three for short-, medium- and long-wave; rodents appear to lack the long-wave-sensitive pigment. The genes are listed with aliases in parentheses, full names and links to gene report pages:

Opn1sw (BCP, CBT, blue-sensitive opsin) – opsin 1, short wave sensitive
Opn1mw (CBD, CBBN, green-sensitive opsin) – opsin 1, medium wave sensitive
OPN1LW (ROP, red-sensitive opsin) – opsin 1, long wave sensitive (human gene)
