Definition:Any method of measuring the level or concentration of insulin in a sample of serum, the clear liquid that separates from blood after it has clotted completely, i.e. blood plasma from which fibrinogen has been removed. Insulin is the major fuel-regulating peptide hormone produced by the beta cells of the pancreatic islets of Langerhans.
