NLRP1 inflammasome

NLRP1 can bypass the requirement for Pycard (ASC) but the inclusion of this protein augments the inflammasome activity of human NLRP. The rodent orthologs contain 2 genes; the murine Nlrp1b gene is predicted to be unable to interact with Asc  (the rat Nlrp1a ortholog and the human gene are listed).  NLRP1 has also been shown to interact with caspase 5 which contributes to the processing of Il-beta in human cells. The members of the Nlrp1 inflammasome complex are listed with aliases in parentheses, full names and links to gene report pages:

NLRP1 (NALP1) – NLR family pyrin domain containing 1 (human gene)
Nlrp1a – NLR family, pyrin domain containing 1A
Pycard (ASC) – PYD and CARD domain containing
Casp1 (Ice) – caspase 1
CASP5 (caspase 5, apoptosis-related cysteine peptidase) – caspase 5 (human gene)
