Jnk scaffolds

Members of the Jip family act as scaffolds for the Jnk pathway; Jip2 may also act as a scaffold for the p38 MAPK cascade. Via their C-terminal regions, they interact with the members of Map3k and Map2k tiers; they interact with the Mapks of the last kinase tier via their N-terminal regions. Individual scaffold proteins appear to interact with particular subsets of Mapk3. The Jnk cascade can be activated by a large number of Mapks – some are unique to the Jnk while others are shared with other Mapk cascades. The official nomenclature for the Jip members is ‘mitogen-activated protein kinase 8 interacting protein – Mapk8ip. The members of the family acting as scaffolds for the Jnk pathway are listed with full names, aliases in parentheses and links to gene report pages:

Mapk8ip1 (Jip1, Jip-1) – mitogen-activated protein kinase 8 interacting protein 1
Mapk8ip2 (Jip2, Ib2) – mitogen-activated protein kinase 8 interacting protein 2
Mapk8ip3 (Jip3, Jsap1) – mitogen-activated protein kinase 8 interacting protein 3
