Multi-Ontology Enrichment Tool (MOET) Help Page

MOET is RGD’s ontology enrichment tool that for a list of genes finds the terms from any or all of the ontologies used by RGD for gene curation (Disease, Pathway, Phenotype, GO, ChEBI) that are over-represented in the annotations for those genes, or orthologs in other species. MOET is accessed on the RGD front page from:

1. The RGD home page icon or ‘Analysis & Visualization’ menu and;

2. Individual disease portal pages from ‘Diseases’ and ‘Disease Portals’. For help with the RGD Disease Portals click here.

MOET is also available on RGD gene report pages.

3. Input your gene list using one of the acceptable identifier types with required species and ontology selections from the options in the dropdown menu.

4. Or enter your genomic region of interest.

5. Click on ‘Continue’ to view the results page.

*The MOET algorithm is based on the hypergeometric test. For more information on the MOET algorithm click here.*

6. The results are displayed with the number of annotated genes associated with each term, reference genes, p-value, bonferroni correction and odds ratio. The results are downloadable.

7. Modify the p-value using the drop-down options to display the results graph accordingly.

8. Use the different options provided to view and modify the graph.

9. View results for other ontologies and species by simply clicking on the desired species and ontology.

‘Explore this Gene Set’ Option

10. Click on the number of genes annotated to a term to open the sub-list of annotated genes.

11. ‘Explore this Gene Set’ sends that sub-list back to MOET for analysis as shown in the image on the left.
