BH3-only Bcl
The BH3-only proteins are initiators of apoptosis. Their on and off activity is regulated at the transcriptional level, by post-translational modification, and/or by protein-protein interactions. Members of the BH3-only family are substrates of many kinases and phosphatases; their expression is under the control of many transcription factors [PMID 19641503 and references therein].
