Gene: Myc (myelocytomatosis oncogene) Mus musculus
Symbol: Myc
Name: myelocytomatosis oncogene
RGD ID: 10940
Description: Enables RNA polymerase II cis-regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding activity and ubiquitin protein ligase binding activity. Involved in several processes, including branching involved in ureteric bud morphogenesis; positive regulation of macromolecule biosynthetic process; and positive regulation of metanephric cap mesenchymal cell proliferation. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including animal organ development; regulation of apoptotic process; and regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Located in several cellular components, including euchromatin; nuclear body; and perinuclear region of cytoplasm. Part of Myc-Max complex. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; central nervous system; early conceptus; genitourinary system; and sensory organ. Used to study Burkitt lymphoma; autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease; breast cancer; hepatocellular carcinoma; and pancreatic carcinoma. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in several diseases, including carcinoma (multiple); demyelinating disease; hematologic cancer (multiple); prostate cancer (multiple); and urinary bladder cancer. Orthologous to human MYC (MYC proto-oncogene, bHLH transcription factor).
Type: protein-coding
RefSeq Status: REVIEWED
Also known as: AU016757; bHLHe3; bHLHe39; c-myc; c-myc proto-oncogene; myc proto-oncogene protein; Myc2; N; Niard; Nird; transcription factor p64
