GENE - TERM ANNOTATION REPORT

RGD ID: 12211396
Species: Canis lupus familiaris
RGD Object: Gene
Symbol: AKT2
Name: AKT serine/threonine kinase 2
Acc ID: PW:0000639
Term: insulin responsive facilitative sugar transporter mediated glucose transport pathway
Definition: The GLUT family contains 14 members in mammals which can be grouped into 3 classes based on sequence similarities. The members of group I (best characterized) and of group III transporters facilitate glucose transport. Of the three members of group I, Slc2a4 (Glut4), is involved in insulin-mediated uptake of glucose in the heart, skeletal muscle and adipose tissue. The response - central to glucose homeostasis - brings together several signaling and trafficking events.
Definition Source(s): PMID:15449578, PMID:15466941, PMID:17717074, PMID:18171430, PMID:18570632
Note: Use of the qualifier "multiple interactions" designates that the annotated interaction is comprised of a complex set of reactions and/or regulatory events, possibly involving additional chemicals and/or gene products.
