The mitogen activated protein kinase pathways (MAPKs) represent highly conserved cascades activated in response to effectors downstream of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) or in some cases G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs), and in response to inflammatory cytokines and stress.
