Losartan is a selective and competitive non-peptide antagonist of angiotensin II receptor type 1 (Agtr1) used in the treatment of hypertension and heart failure. Angiotensin II (AngII) is one of several and probably the most potent peptide generated by the renin-angiotensin cascade. AngII signals through two receptor types to elicit distinct responses.
