Any condition in which the main influencing factor is a chemical which decreases or interferes with the activity of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE). ACE is an enzyme involved in catalyzing the conversion of angiotensin I into a physiologically active peptide angiotensin II. ACE inhibitors are used in the treatment of hypertension, congestive heart failure, acute myocardial infarction and diabetic nephropathy.
