A condition in which the main influencing factor is any form of Trichinella spiralis, a nematode parasite that occurs in animals such as rodents, pigs, bears, and in humans. The organism, which matures in the intestines, producing larvae that travel through the blood and lymphatic systems to the muscles where they encyst, is responsible for the disease trichinosis.
