A calculated measurement in which the number of lymphocytes expressing the CD8 antigen on their surface in a specified sample of blood is divided by the total number of lymphocytes in the sample, and the result presented as a ratio, fraction, quotient or percentage. CD8 is a glycoprotein on the surface of killer (suppressor/cytotoxic) T lymphocytes that enhances binding with major histocompatibility complex molecules.
