A value or quantity determined by count of tumors arising in the tongue from the uncontrolled multiplication of cells of the epithelium, or of cells showing the particular cytological characteristics of squamous cell differentiation, such as the presence of keratin, tonofilament bundles, or desmosomes, structures involved in cell-to-cell adhesion. A tumor is an abnormal growth of tissue resulting from uncontrolled, progressive multiplication of cells and serving no physiological function.
