A calculated measurement of the force necessary to fracture the tibia, the medial and larger of the two bones of the lower leg of bipeds or hindlimb of quadrupeds which articulates with the femur, fibula, and talus, under specified conditions and thus a measure of the biomechanical strength of that bone. Bone is the hard, rigid form of connective tissue constituting most of the skeleton of vertebrates and composed chiefly of calcium salts.
