Definition:This is any condition in which the main influencing factor is control of the process of breathing by a mechanical ventilator with synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation, meaning the breathing rate is set and the tidal volume is set with pressure support. The subject receives a set minimum number of breaths (the set rate) and any additional breaths are determined by the subject.
