Definition:A bellows-shaped respiratory unit extending from the outer wall of the lung into a central air space.
Comment:Dunker (1978) coined the terms ediculae or faveoli to describe the unit structure of the reptilian parenchymal, which are analogous to mammalian alveoli, but are up to 1,000 times larger than alveoli of similar sized mammals[PMID:12625309]
