CROSS-SPECIES ANATOMY - ANNOTATIONS

The Basic subset of the UBERON integrated, cross-species anatomy ontology is downloaded weekly from http://berkeleybop.org/ontologies/uberon/basic.obo. For more information about this ontology see the "About" page on the UBERON website at http://uberon.github.io/about.html.

Accession:UBERON:0005087 term browser browse the term
Definition:An tooth placode is a thickening of the ectoderm that will give rise to the tooth bud[GO].
Comment:[location-note] "In mammals this may be located in the alveolar ridges, but note that some species such as zebrafish have ceratobranchial teeth. Sharks have dermal denticles that share developmental origins. Currently we don't include location information due to this diversity, but in future we may include specific subclasses and/or taxon GCIs."
Synonyms:exact_synonym: dental anlage;   dental placode;   dental primordium;   odontogenic placode;   tooth anlage;   tooth primordium
 related_synonym: tooth germ
