Definition:A pathway triggered by exposure to cerium oxide nanoparticles, also known as nanoceria. Like other nanoparticles, nanoceria has a broad range of applications. A peculiar feature is the anti-oxidant property; by catalytically reacting with superoxide and hydrogen peroxide, it mimics the activities of superoxide dismutase and catalase enzymes. In addition, beneficial effects on cell differentiation and dopamine production have been shown. However, toxic effects have also been demonstrated.
