Definition:increase in the blood levels of CCL3 protein, a chemokine that is secreted by a variety of hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic cells upon stimulation and plays a key role in recruiting inflammatory cells (macrophages, lymphocytes, eosinophils and basophils) to sites of injury or inflammation via the CCR1 or CCR5 receptor; it helps promote wound healing by recruiting macrophages to sites of tissue injury; acts as a potent osteoclast activator and induces bone resorption; exerts HIV-suppressive activity; and inhibits hematopoietic stem cell proliferation
