MAMMALIAN PHENOTYPE - ANNOTATIONS

The Mouse Adult Gross Anatomy Ontology and Mammalian Phenotype Ontology are downloaded weekly from the Mouse Genome Informatics databases at Jackson Laboratories (ftp://ftp.informatics.jax.org/pub/reports/index.html). For more information about these ontologies, see the MGI Publications Page at http://www.informatics.jax.org/mgihome/other/publications.shtml.

Definition:anomaly in the blood level of myoglobin, a low molecular weight oxygen binding heme protein that is normally found exclusively in heart and skeletal muscle cells; in blood, myoglobin is bound primarily to plasma globulins, a complex which is filtered by the kidneys; if the plasma concentration exceeds the plasma binding capacity, myoglobin begins to appear in the urine; monitoring myoglobin levels in blood (and urine) has been used as a means to detect skeletal or cardiac muscle cell injury
