any structural anomaly of the three trophoblast cell layers found in rodent placentas between fetal blood vessels and maternal blood sinuses
Comment:
The human placenta is hemomonochorial, as this membrane consists of a single layer of synctiotrophoblast at term. In mice maternal blood bathes a perforated layer of cytotrophoblast cells that overlay two layers of syncytiotrophoblast, thus the murine placenta is hemotrichorial. Maternal blood has direct access to the murine synctiotrophoblast layer I via fenestrations in the murine cytotrophoblast layer.
