Definition:detachment or loss of adhesion of podocyte foot processes from the glomerular basement membrane (GBM); as a consequence, denuded GBM areas at peripheral capillary loops can become foci for adhesions to parietal epithelial cells (glomerular synechiae) and crescent formation, and podocytes and podocyte-specific proteins may be found in the urine
