MEASUREMENT METHODS - ANNOTATIONS

The Clinical Measurement Ontology (CMO), Measurement Methods Ontology (MMO), and Experimental Condition Ontology (XCO) are currently being developed at the Rat Genome Database. For more information about these vocabularies please see Shimoyama et al. Three ontologies to define phenotype measurement data. Front Genet. 2012;3:87. Definition:Method of assessing the amount one or more end products of lipid peroxidation, the oxidative degradation of lipids, in a solution using an assay in which thiobarbituric acid is heated with a tissue or biological fluid sample at an acidic pH to produce a red chromogen. The level of TBA-reactive substances in the sample is determined by spectrophotometric analysis of absorbtion at ~532 nm or fluorescence at 553 nm.
Synonyms:related_synonym: TBA assay;   TBA test;   TBARS assay;   lipid peroxide analysis using the thiobarbituric acid assay with spectrophotometric readout
