Definition:A method which utilizes a metabolic cage, a housing unit constructed for the separate collection of liquid and solid wastes and in some cases for measurement of liquid waste, to determine the size of the three dimensional space occupied by a sample of urine, the fluid waste product excreted by the kidneys.
