Definition:A method which quantifies the catalytic effect exerted by renin in a specified sample of plasma, the fibrinogen-containing fluid portion of the blood in which the particulate components are suspended. Renin is a proteolytic enzyme synthesized, stored, and secreted by the juxtaglomerular cells of the kidney; it plays a role in regulation of blood pressure by catalyzing the conversion of angiotensinogen to angiotensin I.
