Definition:Hemorrhage occurring between the dura mater and the arachnoid mater.
Comment:Usually resulting from tears in veins that cross the subdural space, subdural hemorrhage may cause an increase in intracranial pressure, which can cause compression of and damage to delicate brain tissue. Subdural hematomas are often life-threatening when acute, but chronic subdural hematomas are usually not deadly if treated.
