Definition:Eosinophil infiltration of skeletal muscle.
Comment:This phenotype can be measured by determining the number and location of eosinophils in skeletal muscle biopsies by Giemsa and modified hematoxylin/eosin staining. However, infiltrating eosinophils are not always identified in conventional muscle histologic examination, but the eosinophil major basic protein, whose extracellular diffusion is considered a hallmark of eosinophilic cytotoxicity, is usually detected by immunostaining in muscle biopsy.
