Definition:A deformity of the elbow in which there is a deviation of the forearm toward the midline of the body.
Comment:Normally, if the arm is held in full extension, the forearm is aligned in valgus with respect to the arm. A decrease in valgus with neutral alignment (loss of angulation) is called cubitus rectus, and a further decreases is called varus. Cubitus varus may be congenital (often progressive), or may be a complication of humerus fracture, trochlear osteonecrosis, and malunited intercondylar fracture. Radiographically, the metaphyseo-diaphyseal angle is normally 90 degrees. With cubitus varus, the angle is larger, with cubitus valgus, the angle is smaller.
