Definition:
OBSOLETE. A process that results in the endonucleolytic cleavage of the damaged strand of DNA immediately 5' of a UV-induced damage site, and is the first part of a DNA repair process that acts on both cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPDs) and pyrimidine-pyrimidone 6-4 photoproducts (6-4PPs).
