RGD DISEASE ONTOLOGY - ANNOTATIONS

RGD uses the Human Disease Ontology (DO, https://disease-ontology.org/) for disease curation across species. RGD automatically downloads each new release of the ontology on a monthly basis. Some additional terms which are required for RGD's curation purposes but are not currently covered in the official version of DO have been added. As corresponding terms are added to DO, these custom terms are retired and the DO terms substituted in existing annotations and subsequently used for curation.

Definition:Traumatic injuries to the cranium where the integrity of the skull is not compromised and no bone fragments or other objects penetrate the skull and DURA MATER. This frequently results in mechanical injury being transmitted to intracranial structures which may produce TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURIES, hemorrhage, or CRANIAL NERVE INJURIES. (From Rowland, Merritt's Textbook of Neurology, 9th ed, p417)
Synonyms:exact_synonym: Blunt Head Injuries;   Blunt Head Injury;   Closed Head Injury;   Closed Head Trauma;   Closed Head Traumas;   Nonpenetrating Head Injuries;   Nonpenetrating Head Injury
