The quantification of a morphological or physiological parameter of bone marrow, the soft, organic, spongelike material in the internal cavities of bones (the hard, rigid form of connective tissue constituting most of the skeleton of vertebrates and composed chiefly of calcium salts). Bone marrow (the chief function of which is to manufacture erythrocytes, leukocytes, and platelets) consists of a network of blood vessels and special connective tissue fibers that hold together a composite of fat and blood-producing cells.
