Protein Gnas

Name Gnas
Description GNAS (guanine nucleotide binding protein, alpha stimulating) complex locus
Notes This gene encodes two alternated gene products, the extra-long form of the alpha-subunit of the Gs G protein (XLalphas) and Alex protein, which are derived from two different ORFs. The Alex interacts with the XL domain of the XLalphas and inhibits its adenylyl cyclase-stimulating function. The XLalphas may play a role in cholera toxin mediated induction of secretory vesicle formation.
