Respiratory Disease Portal – Rat Strain Models

The complex history of chronic respiratory diseases in man has made it extremely important to find a valuable animal model for in-depth investigation of its cause and treatments. The larger size of the rat makes it is easy to determine the airway and systemic inflammations that are due to increased volume of serum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. The larger size of these animals also helps to ensure stability under anesthesia.
