RGD announces that a total of 23827 pathway gene annotations, including 8164 for human genes and 15663 for orthologs, have been made available from the Pathway Interaction Database (PID; http://pid.nci.nih.gov/). These manually curated pathway annotations have been imported via the Pathway Interaction Database Annotation Import Pipeline from PID. Curated pathway data is extracted from a PID master file and mapped to pathway terms in the RGD Pathway Ontology (PW) via related synonym terms. Genes from the PID annotations are then matched to RGD human genes, which are assigned to PW terms with the evidence code EXP (“inferred from experimental evidence”) to generate 2530 total human gene annotations. The annotations are propagated to the rat and mouse orthologs with the evidence code ISO (“inferred from sequence orthology”; 4887 total ortholog annotations) and presented in the "Molecular Pathway Annotations" section of the gene report pages, with links to the pathway term ontology report pages. In addition, a listing of all PID pathway annotations, including those that were not mapped to PW terms, for the gene being investigated is presented, with links to the relevant PID diagrams.
