08/25 - New Version of VCMap Released--tool now includes cow, pig and chicken genomes

The VCMap tool is all new!  RGD's Virtual Comparative Map (VCMap) tool was originally developed to explore the syntenic relationships between rat, mouse and human genomes. Now a new version of VCMap is available which also incorporates cow (Bos taurus), pig (Sus scrofa) and chicken (Gallus gallus), expanding both the versatility and utility of this valuable tool.

The new tool, which was updated by Bio::Neos, Inc., is the result of a collaboration between Dr. Jim Reecy (Iowa State University), Dr. Anne Kwitek (University of Iowa), and Dr. Melinda Dwinell and Mary Shimoyama (Medical College of Wisconsin/Rat Genome Database).

You can launch the new tool from the web page http://bioneos.com/VCMap/.  VCMap will download and run on your local computer.  Start by selecting a species, map and chromosome to be the "backbone" and then load additional maps and/or annotations for genes, QTLs and STS markers to explore the relationships between the rat, mouse, human, cattle, pig and chicken genomes.

Click here to try VCMap or access it from the RGD Genome Tools page at http://rgd.mcw.edu/wg/tool-menu (also available via the Genome Tools tab at the top of each RGD web page).  For more information, check out the FAQ page here.
