The Hedgehog (Hh) signaling pathway, first discovered in Drosophila, is now recognized as a key regulator of mammalian embryogenesis also important for tissue repair and regeneration and the maintenance of stem cells in the adult. Hh signaling relieves inhibitory actions, prompting the activation of Gli zinc finger transcription factors and the expression of target genes. Deregulation of Hh signaling is associated with many conditions including several types of cancer. Click here to explore this very important signaling pathway. |
