Wnt family

In mammals there are 19 Wnt proteins. Some Wnt members are thought to be specific to the canonical or beta-catenin dependent pathway (Wnt1, Wnt3a or Wnt8) and other to activate the non-canonical pathway beta-catenin independent  (Wnt5a or Wnt11). Recent results suggest that the outcome of Wnt signaling might be related to specific receptor or other partner interactions  as well as patterns of expression.
