PP1 is a serine/threonine protein phosphatase complex composed of a catalytic subunit encoded by three genes and any of a host of regulatory subunits. Of the three genes encoding the catalytic subunit, two have been shown to be involved in the inhibitory dephosphorylation of AMPK alpha subunit. In addition, one of the regulatory subunits is part of the PP1 complex that targets AMPK. The R6 regulatory subunit encoded by PPP1R3D interacts with the beta subunit of the AMPK complex.
The three genes of PP1 involved in the regulation of AMPK activity are listed with aliases in parentheses, full names and links to the gene report pages:
Ppp1ca (Ppp1a, Pp-1a) – protein phosphatase 1 catalytic subunit alpha
Ppp1cb (Pp-1b) – protein phosphatase 1 catalytic subunit beta
Ppp1r3d (Ppp1r6) – protein phosphatase 1, regulatory subunit 3D
